Where Is The Best Place I Can Find Images To Use For Blog Posts?

Often I use images to enhance the visual quality of my blog posts, but often I wonder if I am using images that could put me at risk of copyright issues. Where is the best place I can find images to use for my blog posts? Ideally I would like to use images that are free; however, I am open to paying a very small fee.

I just started using picapp.com .. they have a large library of searchable images to choose from and you dont have to worry about any copyright issues.. They even have a niffty Wordpress plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/picapp/

I use flickr quite often and use the Creative Commons CC filter, and cite the source when I use it. I have also had excellent luck (like 100%) in asking for permission from a copyright holder.

I have used dozens of copyrighted images. What I do is find something I like and drop a note to the copyright holder telling them how much I like the image and would like to have permission to use it on a Blog and give them the url.

I have never had anyone say no. As a matter of fact they usually write back thanking me for asking. Unfortunately this method only works if you want to bank them because the whole process can take from a day to a month before you get an answer.

I also wrote a Blog post about how to find free images by color comparison on my LinkMoney dot org Blog at http://linkmoney.org/how-to-find-free-photos-online-select-by-color-scheme/

I also have an account at istockphoto where I download images for a dollar, well that’s almost free, and they have an excellent selection.

Thanks for picapp, did not know about them and will check it out.

See boys and girls, that is why BloggingQuestions is such an awesome Blog!

OK, so I signed up for an account and just downloaded the picapp WP plugin.
Have you guys read the TOS?

As I interpret this picapp has the right to rotate your image with advertisements as they see fit, or else there is an advertisement displayed when the reader does a mouse-over the image.

I have not tried it yet, but this does not seem like anything I want to use.

Another thing to consider is that picapp hosts the image and if they go bye bye or get bought out and smushed, then your images could go bye bye too and your picture frame would be vacant.

I would love to hear opinions from others that are using picapp.

You know… things like that bother me. If there is a Pro option where I can pay money to have full rights to the images, thats fine. But when I am not presented with an alternative and forced to something like:

picapp has the right to rotate your image with advertisements as they see fit

that won’t work. I am extremely particular about controlling the variables on my posts and opening a door fro my traffic to an action that doesn’t generate money for myself is not an option.

Wow, that first comment made me almost want to use this service but now this makes me not want to…ahh the power of multiple viewpoints.

That just goes to show why you should always read the TOS of anything you sign up for! I don’t see myself using this service any time in the near future.

Well, you can find pics on Flickr. You can search for ones that don’t have any copyrights.

I think most people generally use flickr or else photos they have taken themselves. However, most photographers would likely be more than happy to let you use their picture if you ask first (often without even needing to pay)

I know I’ve heard of some other sites that offer this sort of service but can’t think of any besides flickr right now when I’m trying to!
